The CEO of a large professional services firm faced a significant challenge in quickly assessing top-line performance. He had to navigate through extensive P&L statements across Audit, Tax, and Advisory divisions, relying on rudimentary data accessibility methods like server-stored Excel files or direct reports from the CFO. This process was not only time-consuming but also hindered timely decision-making, especially critical as it took 5 days to close monthly books. His primary focus was on key revenue drivers, including hourly rates and billable hours.

Solution

To address this, I initiated a close collaboration with the CFO, aligning with the CEO’s limited availability. Through a feedback loop approach, I ensured the dashboard's alignment with the CEO's vision and the firm’s strategic goals. After creating a wireframe mockup and receiving approval from both the CEO and CFO, I proceeded to identify key data sources. Utilizing SQL, I integrated and processed this data to calculate custom metrics and create a final blended table that connected to Tableau. This solution significantly streamlined the CEO’s access to critical insights, reducing reliance on the CFO for data interpretation and enabling immediate actionability. Moreover, acknowledging the CEO's frequent travels, I developed a mobile-friendly version of the dashboard, ensuring accessibility on iPhones and iPads for on-the-go insights.
